Back The Altar
The altar is a long table found at the front, eastern end of the church sometimes called an apse.

Items standing on the altar include:
  • a cross to remind Christians that Jesus died and came back to life;
  • lighted candles to show that Jesus is the light of the world;
  • a chalice (metal cup);
  • flowers to make the church smell and look beautiful.
The altar is a sanctuary which means that it is ‘somewhere which is safe’.
